白宮今天表示，「北大西洋公約組織」（NATO）盟邦已同意增派5000名部隊進駐阿富汗，以回應美國總統歐巴馬要求擴大北約角色的呼籲。

歐巴馬的發言人吉布茲（Robert Gibbs）說，5000名駐軍中包括針對今年稍晚選舉維安所須的3000名短期駐軍，包括英國900人、德國和西班牙各600人。

另1400到2000名官兵將分成70個小組，每組20到40人，發配到各阿富汗部隊從事訓練任務。

白宮同時表示，北約也同意成立聯盟任務單位，負責對阿富汗軍警部隊提供更佳訓練。
