在布拉姆斯支持下，德弗札克也不负所望的在世界乐坛占了一席之地。1892年，德弗札克应聘到美国担任四年国立音乐院院长，以美国风味的旋律写成这首《新世界》交响曲，同年十二月十六日由朋友安东‧塞多指挥纽约爱乐首演。这场音乐会对德弗札克来说相当有意义，德弗札克表示：“如果说讨论这首交响曲使用‘印第安’或‘美国’民谣这件事没有意义，那是骗人的。”作品首演后，德弗札克写信告诉出版商：“报上说从来没有作曲家能受到如此的欢迎。卡内基音乐厅里坐满了纽约的名人，听众们像是见到皇室成员一样拚命地欢呼喝采。我得从我坐的包厢里不停地向听众鞠躬致意。”　　鉴于布拉姆斯的匈牙利舞曲大受欢迎，委托德弗札克创作《斯拉夫舞曲》的西姆洛克有意以风格近似的作品大赚一笔。果然，第一组斯拉夫舞曲首演后，德弗札克立刻在一夜之间名利双收，虽然《斯拉夫舞曲》是完全根据舞曲精神、斯拉夫民间风格所融铸而成的独立创作，没有直接引用民谣素材，但是曲中充满了优美的旋律与诱人的魅力。   

 

The Slavonic Dances are a series of 16 orchestral pieces composed by Antonín DvořákOpus 46 and Opus 72 respectively. Originally written for piano four hands, the Slavonic Dances were inspired by Johannes Brahms's own Hungarian Dances and were orchestrated at the request of Dvořák's publisher soon after composition. The pieces, lively and overtly nationalistic, were well received at the time and today are among the composer's most memorable works, occasionally making appearances in popular culture. in 1878 and 1886 and published in two sets as
